Description
Sugar Milk’s S/T debut hits with the same emotional heft as some of the greats of 90’s alternative, with vocalist Vrndavana’s croon playing out like a hybrid of PJ Harvey, Hope Sandoval and Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blonde. While influences ranging from the Sundays to Juliana Hatfield immediately come to mind, the dark and somber tone also gives a nod to the Cranberries, giving a depth to songs like “Dead Leaves” and “Fade Away.” Darren and Dana expertly navigate the somber backdrops, with understanding that space and restraint sometimes speaks louder than bombast. Rarely does a first effort come together so cohesively and realized. – Fred Pessaro
